Community Garden


 Our mission is to feed hungry people in our neighborhood and beyond.  All of the produce raised in the St. Mark’s Community Garden is delivered to the Heights Interfaith Ministries food pantry at 3523 Beauchamp in Houston, Texas.  Our contribution of fresh fruits and vegetables to the pantry averages about 1,300 pounds a year.  If you are interested in seeing how many pounds we have contributed to the pantry this year to date you can view our table below:



 The St. Mark’s Community Garden was created in 2009 with guidance from Urban Harvest.  A garden team of church members and neighbors tend the ten garden plots, herb beds and fruit trees, including meyer lemon, orange, satsuma, grapefruit, lime, pomegranate and avocado varieties.  In addition to the garden team’s sweat equity, the garden has benefited immeasurably from the contribution of numerous civic organizations.  A number of Eagle Scout candidates led projects to build the plots and create irrigation, Girl Scout troops have tended plots and contributed signage over the years and various church Sunday School classes have literally labored in the field.  We are grateful for everyone’s contribution.



  Our garden team includes about 15 team members, and we meet almost every month of the year on the first Sunday of the month, with exceptions for holidays.  Each plot has one person or more tending it.  Team members not only oversee plots but participate in twice weekly (or more) harvests for the food pantry, hand water herbs and fruit trees, participate in all team work days, clean out the tool shed, weed walkways and perform other tasks to keep the garden productive.  If you are interested in joining our team, we would love to have you.  Please contact [] and we will put you on our distribution list for meetings.  You don’t have to have any garden knowledge to join us; we are all learning together. 


Support our mission. 

Our annual budget averages about $5,000 depending on how much maintenance or expansion the garden needs.  Our everyday expenses include monthly watering bills, alfalfa hay, organic plant food, plants and trees, shed repairs, organic dirt, replacing sides of plots, irrigation timers and tools.  If you would like to contribute to our efforts, you can donate here
